Happy Spring, in the Northern Hemisphere! Happy nearly-Winter in the Southern Hemisphere!
I am writing today to touch in with you and to say how grateful I am for our connection, whatever it is. Thank you.
In 8 days, I will resume the road part of my RoadTrip, leaving this lovely home in Maine where I have lived since September.
My itinerary for this next part of the journey is unknown to me, other than in how I will daily discover it.
When I am ready to drive, I will sit in the driver’s seat, put key into ignition, listen carefully and feel into which direction is calling me, and then go. As long as I am willing, and having fun, to travel in this way, I will do it. And, should I tire of this navigating, I’ll then travel differently.
At some point, I will head West, again to the Rocky Mountains and spend time in New Mexico and Wyoming.
And I will continue to ask 5 questions of anyone I meet who is willing to discuss and share their ideas with me.
Those questions have evolved recently, due to awareness I gained about how much easier it is now – 8 months on – to think about dreaming a new narrative for the United States, and elsewhere too.
What has contributed to that shift? In my opinion, it is Change, and increasing numbers of world citizens desiring change. Prompted by? Things, long-hidden, now coming to light at local, national and international levels. Known individuals finally being held accountable for harm they have done to others. Corporations under scrutiny for actions they never dreamed would come to light. Wars here and there. Murders being committed by children and young adults. Unsure status of viruses old and new in the world. People yearning for freedoms once experienced, then lost and not regained. Drugs so lethal that law enforcement merely touching them fall ill. Weather events devastating whole communities. Refugees and immigrants moving in vast numbers from many places to escape intolerable circumstances, too often newly landing in equally-intolerable situations. A dearth of reporting on good, uplifting, constructive news and a plethora of the opposite genre of ‘news’. and and and …
I sense that many more people are awakening to the idea that we are the change makers we’ve been waiting for, not elected officials, royalty or corporate leaders.
More and more, I hear of communities organising to take care of each other – ensuring food safety, creating communal gardens and food banks, providing transportation for those without ways to get around, elder care, neighbourhood safety – on the streets and in homes, and and and.
More and more, there are increasing numbers of people and groups coming together to discuss topics to develop clarity and understanding and then taking action to create a world that works well for everyone.
Many more people are seeking meaning in addition to work. Examining and structuring ‘work’ to make it meaningful.
Others are developing ‘education’ for youngsters and adults, marginalised populations, so that true ‘learning’ takes place for all involved. And that it is affordable, safe and healthy for everyone.
I am ending 8 months of solitary living, having a precious, rich virtual connection with friends, learning with/from them and other newly-met individuals, becoming active in a few new-to-me organisations, ready once again to drive through this country, now asking :
If you haven’t shared your own thoughts about this, please do when you have time to share them with me. This is my invitation to you – whether you are living in the USA, or overseas. I am interested in what you think about ‘this country’ which you are free to identify yourself for these questions. If you prefer to talk about your dream for the world, I am equally interested in what you have to say.
I’ll resume writing Love Letters in June’s RT Chronicle. At the moment, I am leave-taking: packing, cleaning, making sure I properly honour this property, the trees, land, pond, animals, birds and flowers in thanks for the extraordinary privilege I have had to become part of the ecosystem here.
To my hosts, every gratitude and love. 🙏🏽
To you, my Friend, big love. ❤️ Be well. Please be kind to yourself and others. Know you are treasured – no doubt by many and, surely by me.
